Last night, anti-dam acitivist Berta Caceres was assassinated in her home in Honduras. The indigenous rights campaigner received the Goldman Environmental Prize in 2015 for her commitment and courage in the fight against the Agua Zarca Dam which would displace hundreds.
On February 25, 2016, International Rivers published the article "The Mortal Danger of Opposing a Dam" in which they reported that Berta Caceres and 200 other opponents were harassed by dam supporters as well as by the police and military during a protest against the Agua Zarca Dam in Honduras a few days earlier. International River voiced significant concern for their safety since another activist of the movement was shot dead in 2013 for opposing the Agua Zarca Dam.
